Box types

Box types describe recurring packaging such as boxes, containers or pallets. Well-maintained dimensions and weights make packing faster and create a reliable basis for shipping planning and evaluations.

Box types: Describe packaging correctly

A good box type saves time with every shipment. Instead of constantly reinterpreting dimensions and properties, employees choose clearly named packaging when packing and work with a common basis.

How to create a box type

  1. Open the desktop button Box types on the desktop Storage.
  2. Use a short name that is clearly understandable in the warehouse.
  3. Record length, width and height in the company-wide unit (see Administration > Master data initialization > Program settings > Units).
  4. Store volume and empty weight if these values are required for shipping, capacity planning or evaluations.
  5. Save and then check the box type in the packing screen selection list.

Best practice naming rules

  • Use recognizable size or type logic, such as S, M, L or specific dimensions.
  • Do not create multiple names for the same real packaging.
  • Only change dimensions of existing box types if the packaging has actually changed.

Fields and their meaning

  • Name: Clear designation of the box type, for example “Carton S” or “Europallet”. The name is a mandatory field and may not be entered twice.
  • Length: External or usable length of the packaging according to your operational specifications.
  • Width: External or usable width in the same unit of length.
  • Height: External or useful height in the same unit of length.
  • Volume: Stored volume of the box type. Check the value consciously; Do not rely on it being automatically calculated from length, width and height.
  • Weight: Net or empty weight of the packaging. The actual shipping weight of a filled box is maintained on the package.
