Testing, performance and release

A shareable dashboard provides correct values, responds understandably, protects data and remains easy to use even over long periods of time.

Your goal

You can run a complete test matrix, isolate typical causes, and release or roll back a dashboard template in a controlled manner.

Why this is crucial in the dashboard designer

Dashboards condense a lot of data into just a few statements. A small error in join, filter or aggregation therefore multiplies its impact. Systematic testing protects trust and decisions.

Elements and settings at a glance

• Checksum: Known X-ERP value for comparing each central key figure.
• Data case: Normal, empty, zero, negative, very large, long text and multiple time periods.
• Interaction case: Master filter, multiple selection, drill-down, reset and tab switching.
• Authorization case: Permitted and inadmissible roles or users.
• Performance case: Start, filter change, large amount of data and export.
• Release status: Dashboard name, backup file, date, auditor and intended use.
• Fallback level: Proven functional previous template.

Here's how to do it

1. Export the status to be checked and document the name and date.
2. Compare each central key figure with a known X-ERP evaluation.
3. Test empty, small and large data sets and all interactions.
4. Map errors to a level: source, join, binding, aggregation, filter, expression, layout, or permission.
5. Optimize data volume and elements without changing the key figure definition.
6. Get professional and technical approval and keep the fallback level.

Exercise

Run at least ten test cases: normal value, null value, negative number, empty period, large period, long label, master filter, drill-down, unauthorized role, and PDF/Excel export.

Check the result

• All key figures agree with control values.
• No unexpected duplication or omission.
• Filter status and interaction are traceable.
• Target role only sees permitted data.
• Dashboard opens and responds in an acceptable time.
• The clearance and relapse status are documented.

Typical errors and their solutions

• Value too high: Check join cardinality, count/count distinctive and aggregation.
• Dashboard empty: Check data source, parameters, filters and authorization in this order.
• Filter doesn't change all elements: Control master filter targets and ignore master filters.
• Slow when opening: Limit time period early, remove unnecessary columns/elements and check query.
• Change gone after restart: Check active dashboard name and successful save process.
