Surface and operating areas

Toolbox, dashboard area, element menu, bindings, data source and toolbar form the working cockpit of the X-ERP dashboard designer.

Open Dashboard Designer on the desktop Administration.

Your goal

You can find all central operating areas, distinguish between global dashboard settings and element-related options, and recognize unsaved changes.

Why this is crucial in the dashboard designer

Anyone who reads the surface in a structured way works faster and more safely. You then know whether you are currently selecting data, configuring an element, changing the overall layout or saving the template.

Elements and settings at a glance

• Designer toolbar: X-ERP start, help, template export, template import and name of the active dashboard.
• Dashboard menu: Global commands and settings for the entire template.
• Toolbox: New dashboard elements and containers.
• Dashboard area: Interactive grid for size, position and selection of elements.
• Item menu: Bindings, filters, interactivity, options and conditional formatting of the selected element.
• Bindings: Maps data fields to the areas designated for the item type.
• Data source browser: Shows available sources, queries, dimensions, measures, and calculated fields.
• Undo/Redo: Undoes or redoes design steps.

Here's how to do it

1. Open a test template and first read the name in the toolbar.
2. Select a free area, a diagram, a grid and a filter element one after the other.
3. For each element, open Bindings, Filters, Interactivity, and Options.
4. Add a text box, move and resize it, and use Undo.
5. Save the test template and reopen it.

Exercise

Highlight the same dashboard element using its area and element menu. Then say out loud which settings are global and which are specific to this item.

Check the result

• The active dashboard name is unique.
• The correct element is highlighted.
• They differentiate between data binding, filters, interactivity and display.
• Undo, save and reopen work.

Typical errors and their solutions

• Wrong item edited: Check selection frames and element titles.
• Dashboard and item filters mixed up: Document the reach of each filter.
• Unsaved to homepage: X-ERP can warn about the loss of changed content; cancel if necessary.

The interface becomes a clear workspace in which every task has its own clear area.
