Open, copy and save dashboards

Open, Save As, X-ERP export and import form the security chain for dashboard templates.

Open Dashboard Designer on the desktop Administration.

Your goal

You can open an existing template, create a secure working copy, archive it as an .X-ERP-DASHBOARD and re-import it without accidentally overwriting it.

Why this is crucial in the dashboard designer

Dashboard templates are stored centrally in the company database. A clear naming and backup strategy protects productive user views and makes released states restorable.

Elements and settings at a glance

• Open: Shows the available dashboard templates from the current company database.
• Save: Updates the opened template.
• Save as: Creates a new template with its own name.
• Dashboard name: Unique name with a maximum of 50 characters.
• X-ERP Export Dashboard: Loads the active template as .X-ERP-DASHBOARD down.
• X-ERP Import Dashboard: Loads one .X-ERP-DASHBOARDfile, queries the target name and opens the template.
• Dashboard list: Shows ID and name of centrally stored dashboards; Deleting has a permanent effect.

Here's how to do it

1. Open the initial template and check the name, data and viewer.
2. Export the template and archive file, date and purpose.
3. Select “Save as” and enter a short test name.
4. Close and reopen the copy.
5. Only import backups with carefully checked target names.

Exercise

Export a test dashboard, import it as TEST_Dashboardkurs_01 and change only the title. Then compare the original and the copy.

Check the result

• Original and copy have different names.
• The name stays within 50 characters and is understandable.
• The backup file can be assigned to a status.
• After reopening, all changes are there.

Typical errors and their solutions

• Existing import name: Can update the existing template.
• Edit only dashboard XML in the master data set: Use the dashboard designer for design.
• Delete without impact check: Check menu links and user access before deleting.
