Tables and repeated detail rows

Tables keep headings, data fields and totals exactly together and are the most important tool for positions, warehouse lists and evaluations.

Open Report designer on the desktop Administration.

Your goal

You can create a multi-column data table with repeated rows, fixed headings, and neatly aligned numbers.

Why this is crucial in the report designer

A table makes variable amounts of data readable. It keeps visual order even with long item lists and multi-page issues.

Elements and settings at a glance

• Table: Entire table object with rows and cells.
• Table Row: row within the table; can represent header, detail or total.
• Table Cell: Single column of a row; binds text, data field or expression.
• Weight / width: Determines the relative or specific proportion of a cell.
• Can Grow/Can Shrink: Controls whether cells adjust in height for long or empty content.
• Keep Together: Try not to separate related content across pages.
• Repeat Every Page: Allows a suitable group or page header to be repeated on subsequent pages.

Here's how to do it

1. Specify the required columns and their reading order.
2. Create a header table in the PageHeader or GroupHeader.
3. Create the data table in the details band and bind each cell to the appropriate field.
4. Align text to the left, quantities to the center or right, and monetary values to the right.
5. Add a structurally identical totals line to the footer and test long texts.

Exercise

Build an item list with item number, item, description, quantity, unit price and total price. Enforce at least two pages and check repeated column headers.

Check the result

• Header, detail and total columns are exactly one above the other.
• Long names are displayed completely and without overlap.
• Numbers are formatted consistently and decimal aligned.
• Subsequent pages remain understandable without explanation.

Typical errors and their solutions

• Move cells individually: Changes table logic; edit rows and columns in a structured manner.
• Fixed height for long text: Text is cut off or overlaid.
• Header in ReportHeader: It is not repeated on subsequent pages.
