05. Database copy and data maintenance
A controlled database copy creates space for testing, training and corrections without turning productive operations into an experiment.
A good test copy feels real but is clearly separated from the original. It is precisely this separation that allows courageous tests without productive risk.
Responsibility that carries with you in everyday life
Copying alone is not enough. Name, connection destination, access, email sending, external interfaces, time reference and data protection must be coordinated with the test purpose.
This creates a clean working environment
- Choose Database backup on the home desktop.
- With the function Back up current database An additional copy of the current company database is created.
Please note, however, that the database copy is not a complete data backup. If the copy is on the same server or disk as the original database, it can also be lost in the event of a server or disk failure. A database copy therefore neither replaces regular data backup nor a tested recovery strategy.
- Maintain current database is a separate function. It checks and optimizes the existing company database. X-ERP carries out an integrity check of the database. If errors are found, they are reported.
The short handover check
- The productive and test systems are visually and technically distinguishable.
- No testing process sends real messages or postings.
- Access and retention are limited.
- Before/after checks provide evidence of data maintenance.
What good administrators immediately think about
- A copy without external communication switched off can reach real recipients.
- Outdated test copies become uncontrolled data archives.
- Direct mass corrections without a fallback path are difficult to prove.
